US tech companies are “openly collaborating” with the US National Security Agency and had a “role in this massive international spying operations,” a Detroit-based political commentator says.

“The US multinational corporations that are openly collaborating with the National Security Agency should be impacted negatively in regard to their role in this massive international spying operation,” said Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire.

“Even if they claim that they did not know that the National Security Agency is accessing their data and the information of their customers, they should still hold the National Security Agency accountable for these actions,” Azikiwe told Press TV.

“This is bound to have an impact on the US economy with these corporations, in all likelihood, losing business because of these revelations coming out as a result of the work of Edward Snowden,” he added.

“I believe very strongly that there should be legislation passed inside the United States to prevent this type of massive electronic surveillance against not only people inside the United States but indeed people throughout the entire globe.”

New revelations by Snowden, a former NSA contractor, reveal that the US is also engaged in economic espionage against other nations.

The US leaker also said that he had entrusted the NSA data to selected journalists and no longer possessed the material.

Snowden, who is currently residing in Russia under a temporary asylum, fears that his life is in danger and says US “government officials want to kill” him for his spying revelations.
