Rebecca Nyandeng, the widow of founder of the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), John Garang, has blamed South Sudan President Salva Kiir for the outbreak of violence and unrest that has gripped the country over the last six weeks. Meanwhile allegations have surfaced that both sides have violated a recently signed ceasefire agreement in the oil-rich country.
The newly-elected president of the Central African Republic has appointed a prime minister to the troubled nation. Catherine Samba-Panza, the new interim president, has designated Andre Nzapayeke, a former official of the African Development Bank, as prime minister.
At least five Egyptian diplomats have been kidnapped in Libya amid ongoing unrest inside the country. The abduction of the diplomats is supposedly related to the detention of a militia leader in the neo-colonial state.
Finally, over 1,000 people have been arrested in protests against military rule during the commemorations surrounding the third anniversary of the uprising of 2011 in Egypt. A series of bomb blasts and streets clashes have resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries.
