Former South African President Thabo Mbeki is working again in mediation efforts surrounding the outstanding issues involving the partition of Sudan.
Meanwhile controversy continues related to the intervention of Ugandan military forces in the current conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.
There is much speculation surrounding the upcoming national elections in the North African state of Egypt. At the same time military leader Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi has traveled to Russia and met with President Vladimir Putin.
There is still unrest in the Central African Republic (CAR) where tens of thousands of Muslims are fleeing the capital of Bangui and other areas. Both France and the European Union (EU) are pledging to deploy another 1,400 foreign troops to the country.
Finally, February is African American History Month in the United States.
The commemoration was founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926. We pay tribute to Dr. Woodson in this broadcast.
