BLF BACK IN COURT OVER ZILLE COLONIALISM TWEETS

CAPE TOWN - The Black First Land First group has returned to the Western Cape High Court demanding an apology from Premier Helen Zille over her tweet on colonialism.

A few months ago, the group opened a case of racism against Zille with the Equality Court.

The premier faced disciplinary action for a series of tweets which stated that the legacy of colonialism was not only negative and she later apologised.

BLF leader Andile Mngxitama says that they also have a matter pending before the Human Rights Commission.

“This matter was brought about three months ago, immediately after she tweeted and it has been postponed. What we’re asking the court to do, is to force Zille to ask for proper forgiveness and express that colonialism is bad for black people.”

Mngxitama adds that BLF has also laid a corruption complaint with the Public Protector.

“She used her personal account to tweet these racist remarks but she is using state attorney, resources and taxpayers’ money to defend herself and we’ve complained to the Public Protector about this.”
