NELSON MANDELA BAY DEPUTY MAYOR REMOVED IN NO CONFIDENCE VOTE
Longstanding conflict between Mayor Athol Trollip and Mongameli Bobani led to the motion on Thursday.

Eyewitness News

CAPE TOWN - Nelson Mandela Bay's United Democratic Movement (UDM) deputy Mayor Mongameli Bobani has been removed in a vote of no confidence.

Longstanding conflict between Democratic Alliance (DA) Mayor Athol Trollip and Bobani led to the motion on Thursday.

About three months ago, the DA rescinded a decision to fire Bobani from the mayoral committee, agreeing that parties would attempt to resolve the conflict.

Eastern Cape DA leader and mayoral committee member Nqaba Bhanga says that the councillors who voted did so based on the fact that Bobani has consistently voted against their coalition government.

“The majority of the council voted to remove Bobani with the support of Cope, ACDP and the Patriotic Alliance. The reason behind that he has been making this coalition unstable.”
