SPA Foreign Affairs Committee Sends Open Letter to Foreign Parliaments
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly sent an open letter to foreign parliaments the world over on September 24, as regards the prevailing tension on the Korean peninsula that is teetering on the brink of nuclear war due to US president Trump’s recent outrageous remarks on the DPRK.

In view of the foreign policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea with independence, peace and friendship as its ideals, the committee which is committed to promoting friendship and cooperation with foreign parliaments and peace-loving people around the world vehemently denounced Trump’s rhetoric as an intolerable insult to the Korean people, a declaration of war against the DPRK, and a serious threat to global peace.

Since his first day in office, the letter said, Trump has upheld “America first” that epitomizes the American way of thinking based on the “beggar-thy-neighbour” mentality and ridden roughshod over the world by rescinding international law and agreements he deems unfavourable to the US.

As an act of extremism, such remarks as “total destruction” of the DPRK, a dignified sovereign state and nuclear power, just reveals his intention to destroy the world as a whole, the letter said.

The DPRK is neither a country that lies down flat at Trump’s bluff nor such a weak nation which fails to utter a word of protest seeing its people killed by the US’ lethal weapons, it noted.

Peace is only guaranteed by powerful self-defensive capability, which is a truth and bitter lesson the Korean people have keenly realized in the decades-long standoff with the US, it added.

“The self-defensive nuclear deterrent the DPRK has built by tightening its belt and paying a high price is aimed at protecting its rights to sovereignty, existence and development from the nuclear threat and blackmail of the US, which has pursued the most heinous and flagrant hostile policy against it—as the one and only criminal nation that has inflicted nuclear holocaust on humans in the world.

“The true enemy of the DPRK which has singlehandedly emerged as a de facto nuclear power armed with a stockpile of nukes and diverse nuclear delivery means is nuclear war itself.

“If warmongering Trump or the US represented by him is going to ignite nuclear war by all means, it will lead to the ‘total destruction’ of the US, the empire of evil, and the victory of justice that gets rid of the main source of nuclear war on the earth,” it said.

The committee was hopeful that the foreign parliaments desirous of independence, peace and justice would fulfil their mission and duty in realizing the human desire for international justice and peace, keeping vigilant about the Trump administration’s heinous and reckless moves to plunge the world into nuclear catastrophe.
