Demonstration to Demand Justice in the Police Killing of Aiyana Stanley Jones and the Enforcement of Federal Consent Decrees; Gather at 2:30pm Outside and Attend the Board of Police Commissioners Meeting at 3:00pm to Speak Out Against Criminal Actions by the Detroit Police
The killing of Aiyana Jones by the Detroit police during the early morning hours of May 16 has illustrated the ongoing problems of misconduct and brutality within law-enforcement. We must build a campaign to win justice by holding those responsible for the death of this 7-year-old schoolgirl criminally liable.
Please join us to express our opposition to the current policies of
militarization and excessive lethal force exercised by the Detroit Police
Department. We must demand accountability for the tax dollars spent for a federal monitor who has not resolved the problems of police misconduct and brutality in Detroit.
We must insist on the halting of police brutality which has resulted in
hundreds of millions of dollars in legal judgements against the city
stemming from the illegal actions of officers within the DPD.
This demonstration is supported by the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality and the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice.
