At least 14 Somali soldiers have been killed in heavy clashes between al-Shabab fighters and transitional government troops in Mogadishu, Press TV reports.
An intense battle broke out in Mogadishu's southern district on Industrial Road on Saturday evening when al-Shabab fighters launched an attack on transitional government forces, the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu reported.
In the clashes, the two sides exchanged gunfire and mortar barrages.
Fourteen Somali soldiers were killed and fifteen others were captured by al-Shabab fighters in the fighting.
Somalia has not had a functioning government since warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
