SOMALIA: Al Shabaab claims 23 KDF killed in ambush near Haluqa

The Islamist fighters in Somalia of Al Shabaab has claimed that they have killed 23 Kenyan Defense Forces in an ambush near Haluqa which is 20km inside the border of Kenya on Tuesday, a press statement from Al Shabaab stated.
“The Mujahideen have carried out an ambush against a KDF convoy at Haluqa. 23 Kenyan soldiers were killed and up to 9 more sustained critical injuries In the course of the ambush.” the statement released on Tuesday night said.
Al Shabaab officials said that the two vehicles were part of military convoy heading towards Somalia.
“An armoured personnel carrier was blown up by an IED” the statement added.
Meanwhile on Sunday heavy fighting has erupted in Badhaadhe town where the Kenyan forces backing Somalia army were still controlling. Local residents told RBC Radio that heavy fighting which commenced on Sunday afternoon lasted in the evening.
There were no immediate comments from Kenyan military officials confirming or rejecting for the Al Shabaab’s statement.
Kenyan forces entered into Somalia in October last year to tackle Al Shabaab fighters in Somalia but have been waging constant insurgency attacks against Al Shabaab.
