JAN 24.—Vice President Nicolás Maduro and Rafael Ramirez, Minister of Mining and Oil, flew into in Havana last night.

During the moving mass marches in support of the Bolivarian Revolution in Caracas which took place on Wednesday, Maduro announced that he was to travel to Havana to convey to Comandante Hugo Chávez the love and greetings of the people.

Maduro and Ramirez were welcomed at José Martí International Airport by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua, Attorney General Cilia Flores and Presidential Assistant Almirante Carmen Meléndez Rivas.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla was also present at the airport to receive them.

Maduro exposes attempt on his and Cabello’s lives

CARACAS, Jan 23.—Venezuelan Vice President Nicolás Maduro announced today that the government had detected the presence of organized, infiltrated groups plotting an attempt on his life and that of National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello, AVN reported.

Maduro said that he has concrete evidence to support the statement. Addressing a rally in Caracas’ 23 de Enero parish to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the overthrow of the Marcos Pérez Jiménez dictatorship, he warned people not to be surprised at actions to be taken in the next few days.

Venezuelan Interior and Justice Minister Néstor Reverol stated that the country’s intelligence bodies and security units had been activated and that all necessary provisions were in place to protect the lives of Maduro and Cabello.
