SOMALIA: Assistant district commissioner shot dead near Buurhakaba town

On February the African Union troops in Somalia [AMISOM] backing Somali government forces have taken control of the town of Buurhakaba town.

Buurhakaba (RBC)-- A senior assistant of Buurhakaba district commissioner of Somalia’s Baay region was abducted and killed by Al Shabab fighters near Buurhakaba town on Friday afternoon, officials confirmed.

The district commissioner’s aide Ibrahim Shaati Laawe was shot to dead after he was abducted from a local transportation together with another man. The other man who is not named was taken hostage by the the extremist fighters.

Buurhakaba districy commissioner Ahmed Garuun said that the incident took place near Buurhakaba town as the assistant commissioner and other people were traveling to Baydhabo, the region’s capital.

“We are now going to consider the security situation of the road that links to Baydhaba.” the commissioner said. “We mourn the loss of the Ibrahim Shaati Laawe.” he added.

The pair were busy nowadays in helping local NGO in distributing aid food to the internal displaced peoples in the area.

Pro-Al Shabab website reported that fighters from Al Shabab took the men as hostages on Friday afternoon on the road and executed one of them.
