On Friday, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of African Union troops (AMISOM) in Mogadishu. At least two people have been killed in the attack that took place near the busy KM4 roundabout. Most of the casualties were civilians.
Witnesses say the bomber was driving a car packed with explosives directly toward the convoy, when the blast occurred.
It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the attack, but the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab rebels often stage similar attacks in a bid to overthrow Somalia’s internationally-backed government.
African Union forces pushed al-Shabab out of Mogadishu in 2011, but the group still retains key strongholds in rural southern Somalia and continues to carry out attacks in the capital.
