China Extends $50 Million in Loans and Grants to Republic of Sudan

Minister of Finance, Ali Mahmoud said that China is a strategic partner for Sudan in development projects, praising the role of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in the development of economic relations and assistance in various forms to enforce many of the projects in the infrastructure development.

This came during the signing of two agreements with the Chinese government yesterday, on the free loan of $ 16 million and a grant of $ 32 million, to be used in different development projects in the country.

The Minister of Finance and Economy, Ali Mahmoud signed on behalf of the Government of Sudan, Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce signed on behalf of his government.

The Finance Minister reiterated his ministry's commitment to economic agreements that have been signed with China and his eagerness to repay loans for projects that have been financed by Chinese financial institutions.

He said that several trade agreements were signed recently for the resumption of oil cooperation with the State of South Sudan, which leads to improvement of economic conditions, and enhances the fulfillment of obligations towards financial institutions and Chinese companies.

He pointed out that the new funding mechanism is in oil-for- projects, calling to expedite the enforcement of the mechanism projects as an important infrastructure projects being implemented in the conflict zones to bring peace to these areas.

The minister pointed out that the Sudan's benefit from the preferential projects is weak.

He called to facilitate the procedures in the framework of China – Africa cooperation, adding that Sudan presented 16 projects to be implemented through the said cooperation.

Mahmoud reiterated Sudan's desire to activate the agricultural cooperation and access to practical formula on joint investment in the fields of oil, mining, electricity, dams and minerals projects.

The minister called on China to enter projects such as wheat, sugar and edible oils. He insisted to facilitate the procedures for Chinese workers in Khartoum and to provide safety and security for them.

For his part, Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce stressed the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said that the Chinese government is satisfied with the level of cooperation between the two countries, pointing out that the Chinese government is seeking to develop bilateral, trade and economic relations between the two countries to new horizons.

The Chinese official expressed his approval of the projects presented by the Sudanese government, expressing his country's willingness to cooperate in the field of mining and agriculture.

He pointed out that Sudan enjoys agricultural land, while China has a large technical expertise in the agricultural field, vowing to resolve all the problems facing the projects implemented by Chinese companies in Sudan.
