Mbeki and the Shuttle Diplomacy between Khartoum and Juba!

The two Presidents of the two Sudans agreed to facilitate the work of the African committees proposed and formed by the AUHIP and approved by the AU. The major role of the committee is to support the implementation of the signed agreements between the two countries.

Bashir and Salva Kiir agreed to overcome all the difficulties that obstructing the implementation of the cooperation agreements, Khartoum summit activated all the joint committees in order to pave the way for the process of normalization between the two Sudans.

Yesterday, the President of South Sudan met Mr. Thabo Mbeki to discuss the outcomes of the Summit between two Sudans and the new efforts that should be done to help implementing the agreements. Last week, Mbeki met the President of Sudan and said he felt a strong willingness from the Sudanese government to build flexible and firm relationships taking into account the interest of the two nations.

The situation in May 2012 in Juba was totally different, I wrote about this at the time, AU Mediation was strongly blamed by Mr. Pagan Amum who mobilized the supporters of SPLM against AU Mediation and especially President Thabo Mbeki the head of the mediation, they accused him of being bias against South Sudan. The protesters in the rally that organized by SPLM chanted denouncing the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ke Moon, AU mediator Mbeki and the government of Sudan, some of them consider the African Mediation as an enemy of South Sudanese people. Pagan's political tactic led Juba to mobilize people against AU then he delivered his speech in Juba to the crowds who were shouting against Mbeki. That means he is against African Mediation. The silent and hidden crisis between African mediation and Juba has been solved now because Pagan is out of South Sudanese political arena.
