An extraordinary summit of the African Union (AU) was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting decided to make an appeal to the United Nations Security Council demanding that the International Criminal Court (ICC) suspend charges against the heads-of-state of Sudan and Kenya.

A raid by United States Navy Seals into Somalia on October 5 failed after it was repelled by the Al-Shabaab Islamic resistance organization. Al-Shabaab opened fire on the U.S. assassination squad who were forced into a retreat. Some reports indicate that the raid was based on false information from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The economic fallout from the lockout of 800,000 federal workers in the U.S. could have a detrimental impact on economies throughout the world. The leading capitalist corporations are responsible through their funding of both political parties that dominate the Congress.

Finally, access has been restored to food supplemental programs across 17 states in the U.S. Food stamp cards were reported to be dysfunctional where people could not access their usage.
