Students of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, have explained that their protest on Friday, June 6, had nothing to do with the purported hike in school fees by the institution’s management.

The students, under the aegis of the Council of Faculty Presidents, COFP, at a Press conference at the institution, said the protest was due to increment in the penalty for late registration.

“It is highly imperative that we inform the general public that the protest of Friday, in which the faculty presidents played active role by stopping it from escalating, was not as result of hike in school fees, but due to increment in the penalty for late registration,” the students said.

Listing the main resolutions of the students, the spokesperson for the COFP, Olanrewaju Ogundipe, said the management must refund the extra charges on late course registration, speeding up on the process of reinstatement of students union, upgrade of hostel facilities, regulation and enforcement of the adjusted prices of commodities on campus, involvement of student leaders in the university basic committees for students, and upgrade of the institution Wi-Fi system, among others.

The students, in appealing to the management of the university to fulfill all its promises for the sake of peace and progress of the institution, said the reinstatement of the students union is very important as it is through it, that they can speak with one voice.
