Zimbabwe Police Storm The Sunday Mail Editor’s Office

Law enforcement agents today ransacked the office of recently-appointed The Sunday Mail editor Edmund Kudzai at Herald House in Harare and took his tools of trade; while the home of The Chronicle editor Mduduzi Mathuthu was broken into last night.
Mathuthu was appointed The Chronicle editor recently, as well.
Police are said to have also visited Alpha Media Holdings offices in Harare looking for The Zimbabwe Independent editor Dumisani Muleya.
It is understood the law enforcement agents went to Kudzayi’s Hillside home in the wee hours of the morning looking for him but could not find him as he had already left for work.
They followed him to the office but he was not there when they arrived.
The law enforcements agents demanded access to Kudzayi’s office and took a laptop Mac Book Pro, IMAQ laptop, Kia cellphone, white charger adapters, a power bank, a flash stick, and an “MDC-T debate disc” for April 29, 2014.
They also confiscated power cables, a computer CPU, a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse.
In Bulawayo, Mathuthu said he woke up to find his doors wide open.
It was not clear who had broken into the house and the matter has since been reported to the police.
“It soon became clear that someone had broken in and stolen several items, including a TV set and odd things like meat from the fridge and Mazoe from a cupboard in the kitchen,” he said. “They also uprooted some vegetables outside. My home in Mahatshula North is guarded by a security guard at night but he said he was reading a newspaper and heard nothing.
“Ordinarily, we can tell when someone is walking outside because of the gravel, but none of the people in the house at the time – there were six adults including myself – heard anything.
“We also found several stones around the house, I am not sure what their relevance is but police said they are usually used by thieves to attack people if they walk in on them while in the act.
“Police have been here to investigate and the crime is reported under Reference Number RRB 1946934.”
At Alpha Holdings, publisher Rita Chinyoka was yet to be briefed about the incident by noon.
“I am not sure, let me find out from the legal team,” she said in reference to the search for Muleya.
Sources at The Zimbabwe Independent said police visited their offices asking for Muleya’s home address. Muleya is on leave.
Police were not immediately available for comment.
