At least five Palestinians, including two children, have been injured in the Gaza Strip as Israel resumes pounding the besieged sliver.
The renewed Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday hit several locations in the Gaza Strip ahead of the expiration of a recently-agreed truce at 21:00 GMT.
Local residents and witnesses say thousands are fleeing for cover amid Israel’s new attacks.
The Tel Aviv regime claims that the strikes are in response to earlier rocket fire from Gaza; an allegation on which Palestinian resistance fighters have not yet commented.
Palestinian resistance group Hamas says the fresh Israeli attacks are aimed at undermining the ongoing truce talks. Israel has ordered its negotiators to return from Cairo, which brokered a ceasefire, over what it calls “truce violation”.
Earlier, the Palestinian side said Israel was bringing up new demands that undermined the discussions.
At least 2,016 Palestinians, including 541 children, 250 women and 95 elderly men, have lost their lives so far and as many as 10,196 others have suffered injuries in the Israeli attacks.
The UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos said recently that it may take months to repair the damage Israel inflicted on Gaza’s infrastructure.
She added that 97 UN installations, including health centers and schools, were damaged in the Israeli war.
UN Mideast envoy, Robert Serry, said on Monday that Gaza has suffered an “unprecedented amount of destruction” as a result of Israel’s offensive.
The UN and several other international bodies have denounced the destruction and death toll as “appalling.”
A panel appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council is expected to start investigating the crimes committed by Israel in its war on Gaza.
