Ten Killed and Scores Treated in Somalia’s Capital Water Poison

At least ten people have lost their lives while more than 200 hospitalized after consuming suspected poisonous water from a well in Mogadishu’s Yaqshid district Mogadishu Somalia.
Yaqshid district commissioner Osman Mohamed has told the media investigations are ongoing to establish the main source of the toxic.
Mogadishu mayor who also doubles up as the governor of Banadir region Hassan Mohamed Hussein who is accompanied by officials from the ministry of water has already reached the scene for investigations.
The affected victims were taken to various hospitals in Mogadishu for treatment.
Mogadishu local authority official Mohamed Adan Guled has said the wells have been closedown to prevent further use of the suspected poisoned water.
It is not immediately clear the main cause of the toxic in the city’s major source of water.
Lack of sanitation, safe water facilities and services and poor hygiene are significant contributors to the high rates of disease in Somalia.
