President of the South African Student Congress (Sasco) Ntuthuko Makhombothi says the struggle for free education has not ended but has been suspended and will resume after examinations.
Speaking at the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) made up of Sasco, ANCYL and YCL and Cosas, Makhombothi urged students to return to class.
“We are engaging with various stakeholders to restore academic programs,” said Makhombothi.
“We have begun to mobilize students to go back to class and libraries,” he said.
There has been numerous student protests at various universities across the country over proposed fee increases for 2016.
He further urged students not to listen to those who say they have achieved nothing last week Friday. This is after president Jacob Zuma announced last week that there will be no fee increase for 2016.
Makhomboti added that there are political agenda’s now dividing students for narrow political ends.
“We will not allow any forces to device students,” he added.
