Kenya’s Opposition Coalition Suspends Protests to Pave Way for Talks
TVC NEWS

Kenya’s opposition coalition has temporarily suspended its planned demonstrations against the country’s electoral body for 48 hours, awaiting negotiations with the government.

According to officials of the coalition, the decision was arrived at following extensive engagement with church leaders and envoys.

The CORD coalition has however vowed to resume demonstrations on Thursday if no solution is found by 9 pm (EAT) on Wednesday.

In a statement, the coalition said its supporters would continue staging demonstrations until all the issues it has raised are agreed on.

In recent weeks, CORD has staged public protests across the country demanding changes at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The country-wide demonstrations turned violent in some cities, with at least four people reported dead at the hands of anti-riot police.
