Together We Fought Apartheid, Together We Can Fight Inequality, Unemployment, and Poverty, SACP Says Vote ANC
10 July 2016

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape convened its Augmented Provincial Working Committee (APWC) meeting on the 10 July 2016 at SACP Provincial Offices in Bisho. The meeting was convened for the SACP leadership to take stock on the daily activities of our party in the province, and to consolidate the final lap of the SACP election campaigns towards ensuring the overwhelming victory of the African National Congress in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

The meeting observed a moment of silence in paying tribute to Comrades who has passed on during the weekend, Makhuphuka "Sporo", Mnguni, Flagstaff COSATU Local leader; Cde Dumisani "Mazola" Mafu, Former MK Combatant and the 1st Provincial Chairperson of the ANC post unbanning and Cde Mzolisi "Jento" Blouw a former YCLSA PEC Member and Former ANCYL PEC Member.

We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of the departed comrades, and the entire movement. May their soul rest in peace.

Deregistration of candidates registered as the SACP in the IEC.

The APWC meeting expressed a dim view of the developments in Alfred Nzo District in line with the SACP 13th National Congress and SACP 3rd Special National Congress resolutions. The SACP is a unitary organisation and therefore its decision ought to be respected by all structures of our party. It is in this context that all the party members who may be found to have been violated the SACP code of conduct and or brought the party into disrepute shall be subjected to the SACP internal disciplinary processes.

The meeting appreciated the prompt resolution of the matter relating to the registration of the candidates as the SACP in the IEC to contest the 2016 Local Government Elections. We appreciate the decisive action taken by our national leadership. We are of the firm belief that the decision of the SACP to contest the election should never be informed by the momentary irritations but be strategic decision in the deepest interest the working class.

It is in this context that the SACP Provincial Leadership and the National Leadership will descend to the Alfred Nzo District to engage with the SACP structures, members and communities to resolve challenges affecting them in the area.

We have however noted with dismay the attitude of some within the movement who wanted to use the situation to wish away the SACP in the alliance, and to insult the leadership of our party. They have even gone to the extent of prescribing the action that the SACP must undertake, we take a dim view on that as it infringes on our independence as the SACP.

Local Government Elections Campaign:

The meeting received the elections programmes from all the districts, which were then consolidated into the SACP Provincial Programme to be undertaken by the Ncumisa Kondlo Detachment.

The SACP elections campaign programme will be fused to that of the alliance towards the overwhelming victory of the ANC in the 2016 Local Government Elections.

As the SACP, we are calling upon the people of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality to reject the racist Athol Trollip, who seeks to project the people of that area as incapable of leading themselves. He and his DA think he should leave his farm to lead the people of the area he knows nothing about as if they are leaderless.

Issued by the SACP Eastern Cape.
