Workers Trapped After Gold Mine Collapses in Tanzania
6:39pm 26th January 2017

A search team is trying to reach more than a dozen people trapped underground at a gold mine collapsed in a remote part of Tanzania, police said.

Commander Mponjoli Mwabulambo said a massive mound of earth had collapsed in Nyarugusu village in the northeast of the country, burying at least 13 workers.

He said: "A rescue team has been deployed since morning.

"The team hasn't managed to pull out a body."

The mine is owned by Chinese company RZP and a Chinese citizen is thought to be among those trapped.
