BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- China and Mozambique pledged Tuesday to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in multiple areas.

The pledge came as top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng met with Speaker of the Mozambique Parliament Veronica Macamo, who was heading a delegation of business people on a five-day visit to China.

Hailing the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Mozambique last year, Yu said China was willing to work with Mozambique to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in multiple areas and push forward the implementation of the agreements reached during the 2015 Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

At the summit, China committed to a 60-billion-dollar fund that would deepen its relationship with Africa over the next three years.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), called on both countries to continue to firmly support each other on core interests and issues of major concerns.

He said the CPPCC will conduct more exchanges with the Parliament of Mozambique to elevate bilateral ties.

Macamo said Mozambique highly appreciated China's long-term assistance since the east African country gained independence in 1975.

Mozambique is committed to lifting "the brotherly bilateral ties" to a new high, she said.
