SACP Western Cape Condemns Attempts by Hired Lumpens to Threaten Our Second Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Solly Mapaila, at His House
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape has learnt with absolute disgust, that a group of hired lumpens hijacking the name "MK Foundation" went to intimidate Comrade Solly Mapaila, our Second Deputy General Secretary and his family at their residence in Johannesburg.

Comrade Solly has been vocal with and on behalf of the SACP collective and membership in its entirety. The fact that he has been a brave critic of the current corrupt and rent-seeking activities of top-level office bearers and officials within government, State-Owned Enterprises, and in our movement does not diminish this collective stance. Nor does the fact that he has been a strong protagonist against attempts by the elite, backed by their Gupta overlords to take control of the state, loot its resources and use the Republic`s intelligence and security apparatus to silence dissent. The SACP in the Western Cape repeats its previous call: Mapaila is not alone in his condemnation and criticism of the rot; his are the views our Party, the SACP as a whole.

We cannot permit rash behaviour by individuals, including the President himself if he ever did or does it or approves of it, to silence criticism. The countless killings of SACP members in KZN, the rising political discontent amongst ordinary South Africans, the heightened levels of social tension including violence against the vulnerable and the desperate economic situation facing the poor cannot be resolved through this sort of behaviour.

The SACP in the Western Cape makes no apology in reiterating that we will continue to condemn and campaign against corruption and looting of our government, irrespective of who is involved. We too, will continue to mobilise our structures and broader society on the call for the President to resign.

The SACP in the Western Cape will also be organising a picket outside the Hawks office`s to call for accelerated investigation and arrest of thugs responsible for the attempted assassination of Comrade Solly on 10 April.
