DPRK Leader Visits Ryuwon Footwear Factory
Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, together with Ri Sol Ju, visited the Ryuwon Footwear Factory which has been renovated as the model of the country’s shoemaking industry.
He was also accompanied by An Jong Su, vice-chairman of the WPK Central Committee, and other senior Party Central Committee officials Kim Yong Su, Kim Yo Jong, Jo Yong Won and Pak Myong Sun.
Established in November 1988 as the country’s first injection-moulded trainers producer, the factory has carried out a modernization project which included construction work covering a total area of 24 700 square metres and upgrading of 1 844 machines of 169 kinds between January 2015 and July this year. Now the factory boasts an annual production of well over a million pairs of shoes including a variety of trainers and sneakers for athletes of different sports.
In the compound the Supreme Leader viewed a mosaic mural depicting Chairman Kim Jong Il appreciating the factory’s shoes and a monument to his visit to the factory before looking round the rebuilt halls dedicated to education with revolutionary relics and the factory’s history.
And he made the rounds of the integrated production control room and workshops for cutting, sewing, shoemaking and injection moulding, sci-tech learning space, design room and showroom among others, acquainting himself with renovation, production and quality of products.
He said that production and quality have been ensured at highest levels, the rate of domestic production reaches over 87 percent, and laser cutter, upper cutter, screen printer and other latest machines have newly been installed, adding that it makes it possible to diversify the products in terms of kind, shape and colour.
The factory runs a shop equipped with a laser 3D foot measuring device that allows customized production, he said, and such service will be favoured by people.
He checked the operation of the rooftop solar panels with a capacity of 400 kW and appreciated their supply of electricity to production activities, heating and cooling, cooking and lighting.
The factory’s products are so diversified, stylish and of good quality that they are quite on a par with world-famous brands, he said. And he added that he is very delighted to think of people, children and athletes taking to home-made trainers and sneakers.
He specified important tasks to be tackled by the factory.
Expressing satisfaction with the factory, he emphasized that the buzzing sound of its machines running at full capacity sounds like the loud marching song of the service personnel and people in their efforts to build a prosperous socialist nation in high spirits and on the strength of self-reliance and self-development.
He had a photograph taken with the factory’s officials and employees.
