Women in Politics Forum Champion Violence-free 2019 Elections’

Women in Politics Forum (WIPF), a non-partisan forum for women and their affiliate partners with support from UN Women, CDD and WSRN held its Women National Peace Rally (#womenforpeace) aimed at sensitizing women and the public on participation in the elections and the public on the need for a violence free elections.

The President, WIPF, Ebere Efendu, said, “Women and youths are the most vulnerable groups affected when crises erupt during elections as such we needed to sensitize Nigerians on the need for a violence-free 2019 elections’.

Co-Convener, Dr. Joy Onyesoh, said that the rally ran simultaneously in 14 States;

Lagos, Osun, Rivers, Delta, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Zamfara, Benue, Plateau, Gombe, Abia and Anambra. “This helped in seeding the message across the country through the partnership of other agencies”.

The Country Representative for UN Women in Nigeria, Comfort Lamptey, who is also one of the founders of the group stated that for them the ‘vision and objectives of the rally resonates with our organization. “We felt it was a veritable channel of seeding the message of violence-Free 2019 Elections’.
