LIMUSA Wishes NUM a Successful Special National Congress
September 4, 2019

The Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (LIMUSA) wishes the National Union of Mine workers (NUM) a progressive and successful Special National Congress. This special congress of the NUM will take place on the 4th-6th September 2019 in Durban ICC.

The Special National Congress will be held under the theme “The Power of Unity”. This theme is very relevant as the offensive by capitalism against the working class continues. The only solution for workers is build worker’s power on the foundation of unity. Workers continue to be confronted by serious challenges which threatens job security and even health and safety of workers in this and other sectors. We hope the congress will be characterized by robust discussions on those issues and provide necessary solutions.

This Special National Congress meets at a time when there is a serious push for unbundling of ESKOM which appears as another form of privatization of this State Owned Enterprise. We strongly support the NUM on its opposition to ESKOM privatization as we believe that will also lead to more job losses instead of creating jobs. LIMUSA will be waiting to hear the outcomes of this Special National Congress and we will continue to have discussions with the NUM leadership to look for solutions to workers problems in our respective sectors.

Amandlaaaa!
