Tens of thousands of supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) demonstrated throughout Egypt on Friday, July 19, in opposition to the military coup and the installation of an interim governing council. An United States envoy visited the North African state this week in essence to oversee the continuation of Pentagon and Wall Street interests inside the country.
Outrage continues throughout the U.S. over the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the murder of Trayvon Martin. Demonstrations are being held almost everyday demanding federal intervention in the case.
In the Southern African nation of Zimbabwe the government is making preparations for the harmonized elections on July 31. The ruling ZANU-PF party is emphasizing the gains made through the land redistribution program and efforts aimed at indigenization of mining and manufacturing.
Finally, the City of Detroit, the largest per capita African American municipality in the U.S., was subjected to an attempt to place it in bankruptcy on July 18. A judge however in Michigan has placed a halt to the proceedings based upon violations of the state constitution.
