This program features our regular PANW reports with dispatches on the declining value of the South African rand during the final days of 2015; the Southern African state of Zimbabwe has announced through its government media that a threatened strike by civil servants over the delay in the payment of holiday bonuses has been averted; the United Nations envoy to Libya Martin Kobler was forced to halt a press conference at the airport outside the capital of Tripoli amid much fanfare over a so-called unity accord where the majority of members of the two rival regimes have failed to approve; and there has been demonstrations in Iran and other countries in response to the execution of 47 people in Saudi Arabia including a leading Shiite cleric Sheik Nimr al-Nimr.
In the second hour we continue our month-long tribute to the 87th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a lecture by labor historian Michael Honey on the civil rights leader's intervention in the Memphis santitation workers strike of early 1968, the last political campaign leading to his assassination on April 4 of that year.
Finally we review a lecture delivered at Oxford University by Winnie Byanyima, the executive director of Oxfam International, asking the question: Is Africa Rising?
