PRESS RELEASE

The Malcolm X Commemoration Committee presents its 12th annual dinner tribute to the families of our political prisoners and prisoners of war imprisoned in the New York metropolitan area and whose family members live in that same area. This significant event will be held on January 27, 2008, at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, N.Y.. The time is 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.

COINTELPRO is alive and well, and this year eight former Black Panthers (the San Francisco 8) were arrested and charged with the 1971 killing of a San Francisco policeman. One of these brothers is Francisco Torres, long-time resident of Jamaica, Queens. Cisco is a hard-working family man, active in his community and a staunch role model for his sons. He is now out on bail and hopefully will be able to join us at the dinner.

Guest speakers are Attorney Michael Tarif Warren and the Rev. Karen Daughtry, First Lady of the House of the Lord Church in Brooklyn. Attorney Warren and his wife Evelyn were themselves victims of police brutality this year and are presently fighting fraudulent charges brought by the New York City Police Department..

Cultural presentations include the rap artist Nat Turner , the fantastic soloist Peggy Washington and African drummers.

This annual affair is an opportunity to meet old friends and comrades and greet the families of our long-incarcerated freedom fighters. The donation is $40.00 for advance reservations and $45.00 at the door. All proceeds go to the commissary accounts of the political prisoners represented at the dinner.

For further information call 718-949-5153 or 212-928-5165.
