BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhuanet) -- An Egyptian security official says former president Hosni Mubarak is in a critical condition, and has been slipping in and out of consciousness. The news comes more than a week after he was transferred to a hospital inside Torah prison.
Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment just over as week ago, for his part in the deaths of Egyptian protesters last year. Earlier, there were rumors circulating that the former president had died. The security official said Mubarak is currently on a liquid diet. The former president’s wife and the couple’s two daughter-in-laws visited him on Sunday morning.
Mubarak is said to be suffering from high blood pressure, breathing problems and depression.
