Jun 07, 2012
ASTANA, (SANA)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was confident that the UN Security Council would not permit any foreign intervention in Syria.
"A foreign intervention through a UNSC authorization would not happen… I guarantee this to you," Lavrov said in a statement in ASTANA, Kazakhstan Thursday.
He added that in case a comprehensive conference on Syria convened with the participation of 15 players, all other forms to settle the crisis in Syria should be disregarded.
"What we intend is the participation of states like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Iran and Turkey, the Arab League as well as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation under the supervision of the UN," Lavrov said.
He went on to say that "after convening that conference, those who talk about supporting the plan of the UN Envoy to Syria Kofi Annan should prove this in a true manner."
