Somalia: Farole Presidency Has Three Days to Go, Say Politicians in Puntland

5 January 2013

Gaalkacyo — Politicians and intellectuals based in the semi autonomous region of Puntland in north-east Somalia, say that the term of the current leadership in Puntland has three days to go so its president Abdurahman Farole has to accept the reality and respect the law of the region.

Isma'iil Adan Diriye, one of politicians who held a meeting in Galka'yo has told that president Abdurahman Mohamed Farole and his team in the current leadership are planning to extend their term but he warned that people in Puntland want free elections and are ready not to accept an extension of the current leadership.

There has been a political turmoil in Puntland in recent days over the plan of election for new president as the current president's term is getting closer to end but local politicians accuse Abdurahman Farole, the incumbent president of dragging his feet to hold elections in the region.
