Justice Rita Makarau who headed the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is now leading the observer mission in Rwanda. The appointment is a reflection of the continental organization's endorsement of the handling of the harmonized elections in Zimbabwe on July 31.

There have been visual comparisons between the pyramids in Egypt and Sudan. Both states have these structures which go back for thousands of years.

The Horn of Africa nation of Djibouti has announced a proposed rail line that will link Ethiopia, South Sudan as well as Djibouti.

This project is being undertaken by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and is a manifestation of Beijing's growing partnership and influence on the continent.

Finally, the Venezuelan government has accused the United States of blocking its airspace to the President of the country, Nicolas Maduro.

Earlier in the year the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales,was forced to land in Europe when he was traveling from Russia back to South America.
