Barely three weeks to the rescheduled elections, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) General Muhammadu Buhari yesterday held a private meeting with the former head of state General Abdusalami Abubakar and former South African President Thabo Mbeki in Kaduna.

Journalists were barred from the meeting which lasted for about an hour at the Buhari’s office located on Jabi Road, Kaduna.

Abdusalami and Mbeki had earlier met with President Goodluck Jonathan who is seeking reelection in the forthcoming elections.

No statement was issued as to why the leaders met almost days to elections but a source said the meeting was held to ensure peaceful elections. Both Buhari and Jonathan were encouraged by the leaders to respect the results of the election and enjoined their followers to be tolerant.

The source said matters of national importance were also discussed at the meeting.
