Malema praises fearless judiciary, calling it the ‘leg holding the state together’
Sources within the National Prosecuting Authority say a decision has been made to recharge Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema as soon as his co-accused Kagisho Dichabe, who is in hospital, recovers.
The decision was taken today after the national director of public prosecutions, Shaun Abrahams, called an impromptu marathon meeting of the NPA’s section heads.
The NPA resolved not to arrest Dichabe but to put the matter back on the court roll as soon as he was fit to stand trial.
Malema, Dichabe and businessman Lesiba Gwangwa were up for 55 charges of corruption, fraud, money laundering and racketeering.
Yesterday, Judge Billy Mothle in the Northern Gauteng High Court sitting in Polokwane, struck Malema’s case off the roll after it had dragged on for three years.
Malema had applied for a separation of trial, saying he wanted his day in court and couldn’t wait any longer.
The NPA was due to release a statement later today on how the Malema matter was handled.
