President al-Assad and Iraqi National Security Advisor Affirm Need for Concerted Efforts Against Terrorism

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad met on Thursday Faleh al-Fayad, the National Security Advisor and Envoy of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

Al-Fayad conveyed to President al-Assad an oral message from al-Abadi, in which he affirmed the importance of cooperation and coordination between Syria and Iraq in their war against the terrorist organizations and the need to enhance this cooperation in the coming period.

During the meeting, stress was placed on the achievements made in the two countries in terms of the war against terrorism, with the most recent ones being the expelling of terrorists from Aleppo in Syria and the advance of Iraqi forces in Mosul.

Both sides affirmed that these achievements represent a victory for the two brotherly people of Syria and Iraq as they share the same enemy, which is terrorism and its destructive Takfiri ideology.

President al-Assad and al-Fayad also highlighted the importance of concerted efforts of all countries in the fight against terrorism as the outcome of this war will not only influence the shaping of the future of the region, but will also have its impacts on the whole world, especially that terrorism knows no boundaries, a fact that was proved through the terrorist attacks that have hit many of the countries in the region and beyond.


President al-Assad to Catholicos Aram I: Terrorist war made Syrians more steadfast and committed to their identity and civilization

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I Keshishian, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Catholicos Aram I offered congratulations to President al-Assad and the Syrian people over the liberation of Aleppo city after years of suffering from crimes committed by terrorists.

His Holiness offered his sincerest hopes and prayers for the liberation of the entirety of Syria from terrorism so that peace and security would prevail in Syria as soon as possible.

For his part, President al-Assad affirmed that the terrorist war that has been targeting Syria and the entirety of the Syrian people for years has failed in achieving one of its most dangerous goals which is undermining the Syrian people’s unity and harmony, asserting that this war has made Syrians more steadfast and more determined to remaining committed to their identity and civilization which is based on diversity and plurality, something what has been a defining attribute of Syrians’ history throughout centuries.

President al-Assad issues law regarding injured military personnel who succumb to wounds as martyrs

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad issued on Thursday Law no. 1 for 2017 that stipulates for regarding injured military personnel who succumb to wounds and die after their military service is over as “martyrs”.

The wounds include those sustained due to the war, military operations, hostile elements and terrorist gangs.

According to the law, the families of injured military members who succumb to their wounds shall be granted the rights given in the situation of martyrdom, which are different from the situation of injury.

The President also issued Law no. 3 for 2017 amending articles no. 48 and 49 of the Legislative Decree no. 30 for 2007 on military service.

The amendments provide for allowing Syrians between 17 and 42 of age to travel abroad upon getting a travel approval from the General Conscription Directorate after paying a bail of SYP 50,000.

The law exempts from paying the bail civil employees, people exempted from compulsory military service, personnel serving in the Army and Internal Security Forces and people dispatched by the government on study or official mission among others.
