There have been ongoing demonstrations since Dec. when a sharp rise in bread prices fueled opposition groups to call for the removal of former President Omer Hassan al-Bahsir and the National Congress Party (NCP) government.

Gen. al-Burhan says he is committed to the creation of a civilian regime. This report aired live on Fri. April 12, 2019.
