Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected in Zambia on a three-day state visit to discuss bilateral, regional, and international affairs, a press statement from Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said Monday.

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Stanley Kakubo said the Tanzanian president will be in Zambia on Oct. 23-25 at the invitation of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.

He said the two leaders are expected to engage in substantive discussions covering bilateral, regional, and international affairs, adding that the visit builds on an earlier visit undertaken by Hichilema to Tanzania in August last year.

The two leaders will also discuss issues such as crucial infrastructure projects that link the two countries, like the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, an oil transportation pipeline, and a one-stop border post.

The bilateral talks will culminate in the signing of memoranda of understanding in key sectors such as trade, investment, energy and defense, Kakubo said.

According to him, the Tanzanian president is also expected to grace Zambia’s 59th anniversary of independence, officiate at the Zambia-Tanzania Business Forum and address the Zambian Parliament.

The minister stressed that the two countries share deep-rooted historical bonds with their bilateral relations firmly grounded on the shared history of the liberation struggle for independence, adding that the visit presents the opportunity to consolidate the relationship.
