Zimbabwe: Chinese Delegation Slams Sanctions

THE head of the visiting Foreign Affairs committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Cde Liu Guchang, has slammed the US and its Western allies for hindering developing countries from achieving their goals without outside influence.

Mr Liu said this after paying a courtesy call on President of the Senate, Cde Edna Madzongwe and the House of Assembly Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade at Parliament building yesterday.

"We should expand co-operation in different areas between our two countries for the benefit of all our people and we should also attach importance on co-operation on regional and international issues.

"We should find ways of how to cope with challenges from the Western world and how to safeguard our own interests. China supports Zimbabwe to chart its own development in line with your own social conditions," Cde Liu said.

He also thanked Zimbabwe for supporting the One-China policy and canvassing other country in the region to the same.

"China and Zimbabwe enjoy profound traditional relations and in recent years our relations have been transformed, Zimbabwe has offered vital support to China on various issues on Chinese interests like the One China policy," he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Cde Madzongwe thanked China for assisting the Parliament of Zimbabwe especially the Senate.

"As Parliament, we have received a lot of assistance in the form of donations from our friends in China and that is appreciated.

"You are always on our side and even when it comes to the UN, you have supported and voted against the imposition of illegal sanctions," she said.

Chairman of the Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Cde Samson Mukanduri, also thanked China for providing assistance to Zimbabwe and said there was room for further improvement of relations.
