Join Doctors4Detroit to Recruit Students for a Free Scholarship Program to Study Medicine in Cuba
More than 100 students from the United States are currently studying at the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba--with full scholarships--including three from Detroit. This medical school, which has 8,000 students from around the world, opened its doors to train U.S. students with the support of the Congressional Black Caucus. Minority and local income students are especially encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have one year of biology, inorganic chemistry (with lab), organic chemistry (with lab), and physics and be under 30 years old. Applications are screened by the New York-based Inter-religious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO) (pastorsforpeace.org). An intensive Spanish language program prepares students for the courses taught in Spanish. This is a six-year program including tutoring and advising designed to help every student succeed. Students must pass competency exams throughout the course of study.
