A man was shot by police in Inkster after a gun battle with officers through a local housing project, so police say.
The suspect survived and is being treated at a local hospital, Inkster Sgt. Jeffrey Twardzik said this morning. His condition was not being released.
Inkster Police received a call of shots fired in the complex at Annapolis and Inkster roads at about 1 a.m., Twardzik said. The suspect fired at a responding Inkster officer, then led that officer and a Westland officer that arrived for back-up on a foot-chase throughout the complex of two-story apartment buildings.
After the suspect was shot, Michigan State Police officers also arrived on the scene. MSP will be conducting the follow-up investigation, Twardzik said. The status of the two officers involved was not being released this morning.
