Former Mugabe Ally Expelled From Parliament

Zimbabwe’s National Assembly Speaker, Jacob Mudenda on Tuesday relieved sacked Presidential Affairs Minister Didymus Mutasa and outspoken former ZANU PF lawmaker, Themba Mliswa of their parliamentary seats.This followed a request to that effect from the ruling party.
Mudenda announced when the National Assembly resumed sitting on Tuesday that the two politicians had been expelled from the House as they are no longer members of ZANU PF, the party on whose tickets they were elected in 2013.
Mutasa was lawmaker for Headlands constituency in Manicaland province while Mliswa was legislator for Hurungwe West constituency in Mashonaland West.
Mutasa fell out with President Robert Mugabe last year following allegations that he plotted together with several former senior ZANU-PF officials – including ex-vice president Joice Mujuru – to remove 91-year old Mugabe from power.
They were later sacked from the party and government in December 2014 but deny the allegations, which they blamed on factional infighting to succeed Mugabe.
He made the situation worse when he continued to criticise the conduct
of ZANU PF’s elective congress held last December that ushered in a new top leadership for the party.
Mliswa was sacked for alleged indiscipline and causing mayhem at ZANU PF meetings in Mashonaland West province where he was provincial chairperson until late last year.
