Watch this Press TV 'The Debate' episode featuring Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire, on the African migrant crisis in the Mediterranean where over 900 died this week.

Hopes of a new and bright future in Europe turned into a disastrous end for the African migrants who were fleeing violence in their homelands, as their boats capsized in the Mediterranean and left 1,300 dead.

In this edition of the Debate, Press TV discusses the issue with Abayomi Azikiwe, an editor at the Pan-African News Wire from Detroit, and journalist and political commentator Richard Millett from London.

Abayomi Azikiwe, editor at the Pan-African News Wire from Detroit, and journalist and political commentator Richard Millett from London, to discuss several tragic incidents in the Mediterranean sea which have led to the deaths of 1,300 African migrants as their flimsy boats foundered.

Azikiwe says the destructive measures by colonial powers, including the United States, in the African and Middle East countries have prompted the current influx of migrants to Europe, adding that the ongoing immigration crisis has been worsened by the lack of support from destination countries in Europe.

Meanwhile, Millett believes that the presence of extremist groups such as ISIL in some of the African and Middle East countries and the pressures by despotic regimes are the main roots of the current flow of migrants to Europe.
