SACP Free State Condemns the Intimidation and Threats to Comrade Solly Mapaila
1 June 2017
The South African Communist Party (SACP) Free State Province strongly condemns the intimidation and threats by MK imitators at the home of our Second Deputy General Secretary Comrade Solly Mapaila yesterday. These individuals said to be acting in defence of President Zuma, sought to intimidate and silence the SACP by silencing Mapaila from expressing what in fact are the views and decisions of the SACP. These imitators brought the name of the MK into disrepute by opportunistically purporting to be representing the MK Foundation.
The SACP is extremely worried by the seemingly growing trend of funded, organised vagabonds who are getting emboldened in various provinces. These thugs are transported around to engage in disruptive hooliganism in activities of the broader movement, and mete out intimidation and threats to comrades, particularly those who openly confront corruption, patronage and corporate state capture.
The orchestrators fund these despicable acts of counter-revolution with money siphoned from the state through corruption in an attempt to safeguard and perpetuate their looting of state resources. State resources are meant to address the intensifying societal challenges such as poverty and unemployment and not to enrich the parasitic networks encircling the state and our economy.
Even more worrying is the use of the name of President Jacob Zuma under the pretext of "hands off Zuma", "in defence of Jacob Zuma" or "100% Jacob Zuma" by these disrupters and thugs. The SACP Free State agrees with the call by our national structure on the President to speedily condemn and distance himself from these thugs. His failure to do so will leave us with no other impression than that he either sanctioned or agrees with such disputable acts and degeneration. The movement and relevant state institutions must also actively investigate these pranksters and their handlers and act decisively against the madness.
The SACP Free State Province agrees that the security situation around leaders of our Party should be re-considered seriously. The SACP should continue to fearlessly confront the negative tendencies facing our movement in general and and society in general.
