SACP, COSATU and SANCO Statement on the Outcomes of the Western Cape List Process

The SACP, COSATU and SANCO in the Western Cape held a meeting of Provincial office bearers on the 17th January 2019. The main content of the meeting was to reflect primarily on the state of the alliance and the outcomes of the provincial list which was held on the 27 December 2018.
Accordingly, the SACP, COSATU and SANCO noted the preliminary outcomes of the ANC Provincial list and its proper meaning to the state of the alliance.
Thus, the three components of the alliance, believe that the process and the results thereof reflect an anti-alliance connotation and most worrying an attempt to marginalise the rural section of the mass democratic movement. Therefore, this confirms our belief as these three components of the alliance in our conceptualisation of the necessity to reconfigure the alliance as a strategic centre of power.
Thus, the call for reconfiguration was necessitated by the need to look at the different mode of operation as way to address some of the glaring weaknesses. Through the reconfigured alliance, the entire component of the alliance will be able to determine and take full ownership of our shared national democratic revolution.
Hence, the alliance must remain the strategic political centre of power in taking the NDR forward. Therefore, the meeting, of these three alliance components re-emphasised the need to put an end to the BIG brother syndrome of reducing alliance partners to mobilising tools and defenders of wrong decisions including, of incompetent and corrupt individuals.
Therefore, the SACP, COSATU and SANCO resolved to reject any outcome that disregards the alliance components. We demand a Provincial list that encapsulates the national question, class and gender. A list that does not reflect the Phuma Singene syndrome but appreciate the performance and skills that were acquired by those who are currently serving in the current term. A list that recognise the youth with skills and a youth that represent all sections of our society. This should also apply to the woman question that the list should reflect woman of all sectors. We demand the head of the alliance to provide leadership and make sure that the lists is treated as deployment not employment of friends and dominant factions.
Thus, the alliance cannot be reduced to an outcome of the Provincial lists conference which its outcomes were anti-alliance. A necessary political intervention needs to be developed so that all the components of the alliance would campaign for an inclusive list of leaders capable of taking the NDR forward.
