Trump Administration to Deploy Tactical Officers to Sanctuary Cities

The Trump administration is deploying special tactical officers from US Customs and Border Patrol to sanctuary cities, including New York, in order to assist ICE with cracking down on undocumented immigrants, officials and law enforcement sources said Friday.
Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence told The Post in a statement that ICE “is utilizing CBP to supplement enforcement activity in response to the resource challenges stemming from sanctuary city policies.”
“As we have noted for years, in jurisdictions where we are not allowed to assume custody of aliens from jails, our officers are forced to make at-large arrests of criminal aliens who have been released into communities,” said Albence.
“This effort requires a significant amount of additional time and resources. When sanctuary cities release these criminals back to the street, it increases the occurrence of preventable crimes, and more importantly, preventable victims,” Albence said in the statement.
An official said that the goal of the new joint operation is to up arrests in sanctuary jurisdictions by at least 35 percent, according to The New York Times.
“CBP agents and officers who are being detailed to help ICE come from a number of different sectors and job positions,” a CBP official told The Post. “While some of them are trained in tactical operations, that is one of the many areas of training. All CBP officers and agents are FLETC-trained, just like ICE, and are more than capable of helping ICE fulfill their mission.”
In President Trump’s recent State of the Union address, he blasted the “Sanctuary City of New York” for causing the heinous rape and murder of 92-year-old Maria Fuertes of Queens.
“Tragically, there are many cities in America where radical politicians have chosen to provide sanctuary for these criminal illegal aliens,” the president said in the Feb. 4 address.
“In sanctuary cities, local officials order police to release dangerous criminal aliens to prey upon the public, instead of handing them over to ICE to be safely removed,” the commander in chief said.
Meanwhile on Friday, Trump invited the granddaughter of Fuertes to speak at the White House during an event with the National Border Patrol Council labor union.
