Historic Hearing in Richmond Wednesday, Oct. 13, to Reclaim African Slave Burial Ground

Sisters and Brothers,

We have just received word that the court hearing on the first African Burial Ground lawsuit will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 13 – not on Monday, Oct. 18, as was announced at the Town Hall Meeting this past Sunday.

The hearing will be heard at 10 am before Judge Clarence Jenkins in Richmond Circuit Court at the John Marshall Courts Building, 400 N. 9th St. in downtown Richmond.

This hearing concerns the first lawsuit filed by former City Councilman Sa’ad El-Amin, which calls on the court to order the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to conduct archeological tests at the African Burial Ground site to determine the exact boundaries of the cemetery.

We urge you to join us as we pack the courtroom in support of this effort.
