Mauritania has reportedly exposed an Israeli spy network consisting of 'international activists and Arab businessmen,' which operated in different countries across the globe.
The revelation came, when local police officers in the West African country arrested a member of the network for robbery, Lebanese broadcaster Al-Manar reported on Wednesday, citing Mauritanian sources.
According to the report, the man has been identified as a Fares al-Banna.
While searching his house, the police found handwritten letters to the United Arab Emirates ambassador in Mauritania, in which al-Banna had confessed to being a spy hired by the Israeli spy agency, Mossad.
The Emirati ambassador has, however, reportedly dismissed any form of communication with al-Banna.
In other letters, he had also confessed to having been involved in the assassination of the senior Hamas official, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, who was killed on January 19, 2010 in Dubai. Dubai's police have said evidence confirms Mossad's role in the targeted killing.
